Trinity Sunday - May 25th

Trinity Sunday Prayer
Father,
You sent your Word to bring us truth
and your Spirit to make us holy.
Through them we come to know the mystery of your life.
Help us to worship you, one God in three persons,
You reveal yourself in the depths of our being,
by proclaiming and living our faith in you.
Grant this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,
one God for ever and ever. Amen

A Prayer to the Holy Spirit

Collect of the Day:   Almighty and everliving God, who fulfilled the promise of Easter by sending us your Holy Spirit and opening to every race and nation the way of life eternal, keep us in the unity of your Spirit, that every tongue may tell of your glory; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever.  Amen.

A Prayer to the Holy Spirit

Come, O Spirit of God
Holy Spirit, I offer myself
to your work of healing, peace and reconciliation.
In my busy world, bless my silent moments.
In the stillness of my heart, may I find peace within myself,
peace with others, and peace with you Amen.

Journey to Wholeness - OSL Healing Conference

Journey of Wholeness was the name of the OSL ( Order of St. Luke ) Healing Conference Rev. Andrew and Janet attended last weekend.
The scripture used to begin the gathering was the same as today's, John 5: 1-9, where Jesus asks the lame man at the pool of Bethseda, "Do you want to get well?"   It seems a strange question to ask a sick person.  Don't we all wish to be perfectly healthy of body, mind and spirit?
Perhaps the question is about our own perspective of health of wholeness, of life and our place in it, our relationship to God and to those around us?  Or simply a question meant to focus our awareness on our needs and goals.
The journey to wholeness is a life-long process which includes evaluation and effort, and perhaps some change in how we think and in what we do.  Are we doing everything we can to achieve and maintain health?  Do we eat good foods, eat in moderation, get enough exercise and rest our bodies, fill our spirits with joy by doing things that create joy in us, examine our emotions and act with reason and wisdom, relating in appropriate and helpful ways to situations and people in our daily routines?
What ailments - physical, spiritual or otherwise - do you need Jesus to treat in your life?

The Healing at the Pool

Some time later, Jesus went up to Jerusalem for one of the Jewish festivals. Now there is in Jerusalem near the Sheep Gate a pool, which in Aramaic is called Bethesda[a] and which is surrounded by five covered colonnades. Here a great number of disabled people used to lie—the blind, the lame, the paralyzed. [4] [b] One who was there had been an invalid for thirty-eight years. When Jesus saw him lying there and learned that he had been in this condition for a long time, he asked him, “Do you want to get well?”
“Sir,” the invalid replied, “I have no one to help me into the pool when the water is stirred. While I am trying to get in, someone else goes down ahead of me.”
Then Jesus said to him, “Get up! Pick up your mat and walk.” At once the man was cured; he picked up his mat and walked.
The day on which this took place was a Sabbath,

Footnotes:

  1. John 5:2 Some manuscripts Bethzatha; other manuscripts Bethsaida
  2. John 5:4 Some manuscripts include here, wholly or in part, paralyzed—and they waited for the moving of the waters. From time to time an angel of the Lord would come down and stir up the waters. The first one into the pool after each such disturbance would be cured of whatever disease they had.

Love on another. John 13: 34-35

"A new command I give you:  Love one another.  As I have loved you, so you must love one another.  By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another."  John 13: 34-35.
A new command:  In a sense it was an old one (see Leviticus 19:18), but, for Christ's disciples it was new because it was the mark of their brotherhood, created by Christ's great love for them ( Matthew 22: 37-39, Mark 12: 30-31, Luke: 10:27).
As I have loved you: Our standard is Christ's love for us.

Joy of Sring

by David Whalen
A Spring morning, A warm Breeze, doves cooing softly.  Pollen dusted trees.
A few brave violets.  A red streaked dawn.  A very early robin.  Earthworms in the lawn.
Spring peeper frogs.  Smell of dogwood blossoms,
Nature's petroglyphs in muddy bogs.  Footprints left by possums..
Easter eggs and bonnets, Chocolate rabbits.  Missing ears
Jelly beans and sonnets, Spilled Easter baskets, children tears
Parades, leafy bowers, Lemonades.  Spring showers
Spring mornings.  Warm breezes.  Deep breaths. Allergic sneezes
Smell of Fresh blossoms.  Sound of birds as they sing
Joy of life...Joy of being... Joy of Spring
