     On November 5th the annual "Remember with Us" was held at St. Peter's Anglican Church in Alberton - a moving tribute, honouring our Veterans.

            November 11 is a day for all Canadians to remember. On this day in 1918, the hostilities of World War One came to a close. Since then November 11 has been used as a time to remember and be grateful for the individuals who laid down their lives in the service of our nation and who are still fighting for our Country. St. Peter’s Anglican Church in Alberton invites the public to share an evening with them during their “Remember With Us” service, being held Thursday, Nov 7, beginning at 7 pm. There will be songs, readings, reflections and light refreshments.
            Leading the service through song will be St. Peter’s Choir and friends, composed of singers from many local churches. They will sing songs written about the Great War, but also the songs that got people through World War II, such as ‘Don’t Sit Under the Apple Tree,’ and, ‘We’ll Meet Again”. The audience is encouraged to sing along. There will be solo performances by Reverend Lynn McKinnon, special musical guests and readings by Reverend Andrew Mortimer and others. Merry Carruthers will be playing the piano for the service, as she has for the past four years. This will be the fifth annual Remember With Us service hosted by St Peter’s.
            In the past, there has been as many as 15 choir members volunteering their time, and there’s usually a full house in the audience. The service has been described as emotional and moving in previous years, but also fun for those who attend. St Peter’s Church welcomes everyone to join them that evening to remember. After the service, there will be a luncheon available to all. There is no cost to attend, and no donations are requested.

2013 Annual General Meeting

     We had a great Annual General Meeting (AGM) yesterday.  First the morning workship service was held at St. Peter's Church Alberton at 10:30am with Holy Eucharist.  It was a combined Parish service in advance of our annual meeting.  The service began with a slide show featuring us, the folks of our Parish participating in a variety of church events through-out the year - thanks Christine for putting this together!
     Following the service we went down to the Hall (in basement) for a potluck lunch with lots of goodies, from casseroles to sweats - we have lots of good cooks in our Parish!
     After lunch we held our annual meeting, chaired by Rev. Andrew chairing with myself as secretary, my regular job in the Parish.  Here's a photo of us hard work!!  - thanks Cyndi for the photo.

      Below is the cover from the 2012 Annual Report - this is my third year compiling the reports.  This year the cover features old photos of the Parish churches.  Last year I had winter scenes of the churches and the year before summer photos.  I'm looking forward to coming up with a creative cover for 2013's report.

St. Peter's Alberton getting painted

     The church is getting a fresh coat of paint (along with a few exterior misc. repairs).  
     St. Peter's Alberton is the third St. Peter's Church in our Parish.  The first St. Peter's was built in 1865 on the outskirts of town and sold to be used as a house when the second St. Peter's opened in the town of Alberton in 1891, located on the corner of corner of Main and Church Streets.  In 1927 a great fire burned the east side of Main Street - burning all the buildings including the church.  Immediately a committee was struck to build a new church, the third St. Peter's which opened in the fall of 1929.  
     In the 1980's a new foundation was placed under the church to create a Hall with kitchen; Sunday School room, Washrooms, Office, etc.

St. Peter’s, Alberton - Appreciation day during Lenten Services

St. Peter’s stands at the corner of Church and Main,

I know, I know, it’s just a building, but a beautiful one all the same.

It boasts a history that makes us proud,

Over many years, the praises of Jesus were shouted, right out loud.

When you open the heavy wooden doors and walk inside,

There’s a love, a respect, and a caring, you just can’t hide.

We worship as a church family and work together as one,

In all that we do, we give glory to the Father, the Holy Spirit and the Son.
Davey Smith pounds the ivories and leads the choir,
I thank them for their commitment and voices that are superior!
The ladies of the Altar Guild, tend to their weekly duties with devotion,
To stand in the midst of our gleaming altar, evokes a quiet emotion.
Janet Mortimer cleans and straightens up our pews,
There’s never a speck of dust or a piece of grass that sticks to our shoes!
The faithful weekly readers share God’s Word with us,
They never make an excuse, they humbly read without a fuss.
“Prayers of the People” are an important part of every Sunday, if you get my gist,
It’s a hard thing at times, to ask for prayer – but the prayer leaders will quietly put your name on the list.
DeeDee Rayner inspired me to become a Lay Reader,
Thank you DeeDee, my mentor and spiritual leader.
Thank you also to every Lay Reader in our church,
Ready to lead, to pray, to help out and not leave Rev. Andrew in the lurch.
Many members on Council have served us for countless years,
Raigh, Judy, Archie, Verna – if I left someone out, I apologize, but you’re all such dears!
Now Elaine balances our books with articulate skill,
Hounding us for our receipts, never missing a bill.
Smiling greeters each week at the door,
Chat and welcome us, it never seems a chore.
Being good Anglicans, who could forget “the lunch”!
Thank you to all who contribute – lots to drink and delicacies on which to munch!
Thanks to Verna C. we’ve lists to follow so we all know when,
It’s our turn to help out, greet, bring lunch or read again.
Every month our Church Council members gather to talk things through,
We hope and pray we do the best we can for the church and for you.
Now I bet you thought I left someone out - he’s not “last” to say the least,
From the bottom of my heart, a very large thank you to Rev. Andrew, our priest.

Halloween Bean & Sausage Supper

We had a great fund-raising event on Friday evening at St. Peter's Hall serving near 100 people in two sittings.  Following are some photos from our Ghosts & Ghouls Bean & Sausage Supper.

Parish Combined Service by ACW

We had a wonderful Parish Combined Service yesterday at St. Peter's Alberton.  The service was carried-out by the members of the ACW starting with a skit by Shirley Phillps and Verna Callbeck pictured here below.

All aspects of the service were by the ACW members. Janet Mortimer presented a report on the recent Annual ACW Retreat in Cavendish.

Also, at the end of the service Rev. Andrew presented Jan Cox with her official Lay Readers Medallion - congratulations Jan!

Following the service we were treated to a delicious brunch in the Hall by the ACW.  Many, many thanks to the good work the ACW does for our Parish and community.

Back to Church Sunday at St. Peter's Alberton

We had a great service at St. Peter's yesterday morning - there were familiar and new faces.

Healing Service held at St. Peter's



We had a wonderful healing service of music, teaching and prayer last evening at St. Peter's Alberton.  Thanks very much to Rev. Andrew and Janet - it was very spiritual and moving!

Bishop's Visit today

We enjoyed an early morning service at St. Peter's Alberton with Eucharist celebrated by Bishop Sue Moxley.  Following we had fellowship and refreshments in the Hall where we took this photo with our "flat Staceys" brought back to our Parish from Synod last weekend.

Following at 10:30am, Holy Communion and Confirmation Service was celebrated at St. Luke's O'Leary.  Receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation today were: Amy Gerus, Jody Gerus, Lucas Rix, Sophie Rix, Clara Wood, Hannah Wood.  We give our thanks and praise to God for you!  Congratulations!
